Summer care tips for your dog

Summer care tips for your dog

As the scorching sun makes its presence felt, we all rush for our cold drinks, light clothing and air-conditioners. Aren't you forgetting something, though? How can you not remember the pawsome fellas that follow you everywhere? Your furry friends deserve the same care this summer as you do. So, here are some summer tips for your dogs from us. Follow them and have a gala time with your fur-iend!

First and foremost, make sure they get enough of cool shade and water (to drink as well as to splash in). Don’t let them stay out in the sun for too long as it can cause them to suffer a heatstroke. When inside the house, move their beds to a well-ventilated, cool area. Most importantly, don’t keep them in tightly enclosed spaces like cars. It is not just careless on your part, it is life-threatening for them.

Watch out for the common signs of overheating. These include a wobbly gait, heavy panting, vomiting and diarrhea. If they show any of these symptoms, take them to a cooler place and make sure they drink some water. You can also wrap them up in a wet towel and take them to a vet.

If your dog generally wears clothes, avoid heavy, full-body clothing or clothing made from synthetic materials. Summer clothes for dogs should be light and made from natural fabrics.

Summer food for dogs can be kept the same as in other seasons. However, if you can switch to wet dog food, it will increase their fluid intake and make it easier for their bodies to stay cool. Also, make sure that your pet drinks more water than usual.

Change your walk timings to avoid exposure to the hot sun. Walks and exercises should be restricted to early mornings or late evenings only. As an added advantage, this will also help protect you from the blazing sun.
Despite all your care, it is possible that your dog may fall sick and show signs like diarrhea, vomiting etc. If this happens, take them to a vet ASAP. The sooner they get treated, the better and faster will be the recovery.

Caring for your dog in the summer is not rocket science. It is straightforward and simple - just like their love for you. Follow these simple tips and ensure that your furry friend stays fresh, happy and joyful!
